Why does it matter?
Each year, the Federal government distributes over $1 trillion in grants and cooperative agreements across 52 awarding agencies1, representing one of the federal government’s largest investments to drive improvements for the American people. As agencies have largely managed their grants internally, there has not been a concerted effort to coordinate across the federal grants management systems landscape. This has resulted in a disconnected, aging systems environment made up of a myriad of systems with varying levels of maturity, as well as a fragmented user experience that increases the administrative burden for applicants, recipients, and awarding agencies.
